Last week, Rector of Klaipėda University (KU) prof. dr. Artūras Razbadauskas together with the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation prof. dr. Darius Daunys took part in an educational mission to the Republic of South Korea organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania.

The first important meetings were held with the university hospitals of Seoul.  As KU has recently become the founder of Klaipėda University Hospital, this was a great opportunity to get acquainted with best management practices from modern and innovative university hospitals. Three hospitals in Seoul were visited: Samsung Medical Centre,  Ewha Women's University Medical Centre, and Seoul National University Hospital. During the meetings, Klaipėda University, its research  activities and potential were presented and opportunities for joint activities were discussed. A cooperation agreement on strategic partnership was signed with Seoul National University Hospital.

Two universities were visited in Busan. A study and research partnership was discussed and a cooperation agreement signed with Pukyong National University. The visit was rounded off by a meeting with the President of the Korea Maritime and Ocean University, Mr DeogHee DOH, to discuss the implementation of the existing cooperation agreement, the possibility of developing joint programmes, the prospects for participation in the EU-CONEXUS Alliance, and the planned visit of representatives of this university to KU in August this year.

The mission is considered a success by the KU authorities. The contacts made and the joint activities discussed could become significant projects not only for KU but also for the whole region.
