Recognition of Foreign Qualifications

Klaipeda University is an institution authorized by the Minister of Education, Science, and Sports to carry out academic recognition of foreign qualifications for study purposes.

Academic Recognition of Foreign Qualifications

The academic recognition of foreign qualifications is a formal confirmation by the institution conducting the evaluation, stating the value of the foreign qualification for the qualification holder when applying to study at Klaipėda University.

The academic value of a foreign qualification is determined by comparing it to the most similar qualification offered in Lithuania based on the following criteria:

  1. Level
  2. Purpose
  3. Scope (duration)
  4. Quality of learning (study)
  5. Learning (study) outcomes

As part of the recognition process, the authenticity of the document and the accreditation status of the awarding institution at the time the qualification was granted are always verified.

How to Apply for Recognition

The Academic Affairs Department at Klaipėda University handles the academic recognition of qualifications. The following high-quality scanned documents must be submitted for recognition:

  1. Application form available at https://apply.ku.lt and the documemnts as per below:
  2. Personal identification document
  3. The original qualification document (in its original language) along with an official English translation
  4. A document proving a name or surname change (if applicable)

Decisions Regarding Qualification Recognition

Following the evaluation, the recognition decision may be as follows:

  1. Recognize the foreign or international qualification as equivalent.
  2. Recognize the foreign or international qualification and grant the qualification holder certain rights, such as eligibility to pursue further studies, but only in specific fields (or groups of fields).
  3. Recognize the foreign or international qualification with additional requirements.
  4. Reject the recognition of the foreign or international qualification.

Appealing an Academic Recognition Decision

Where an applicant disagrees with the University’s decision on the academic recognition of a foreign qualification, the applicant may, within 10 working days of sending date of the documents via e-mail or DreamApply system, submit an appeal against the decision to the Academic Recognition of Foreign Qualifications Concerning Higher Education Appeal Committee under the CQAHE.

The appeal must include the following information:

  • Name of the commission to which the appeal is addressed
  • Applicant's name, surname, residential address, email address, and contact phone number
  • If applicable, the representative's name, surname, address, email address, and phone number
  • Name and address of the authorized higher education institution whose decision is being contested
  • Contested decision and the circumstances supporting the appeal
  • Evidence supporting the appeal and a list of attached documents, if applicable
  • Location and date of the appeal submission

A copy of the contested academic recognition decision must be attached to the appeal.
The appeal will be reviewed no later than 30 calendar days from the date of receipt of the appeal and all related documents.
