Sustainable Innovations of KU Researchers at the Green Ideas Festival

On June 5, the World Environment Day, a Green Ideas Festival 2022 will take place in the courtyard of the Presidency of the Republic of Lithuania and in Daukantas Square, the aim of which is to acquaint the public with environmental innovations and green initiatives.

At the Festival, Klaipėda University together with its partner, Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, will present two of a number of sustainable innovations developed by KU researchers. One of them is the unique Livelagoons project to improve the quality of water bodies: scientists planted artificial islands in water bodies and provided them with plants that extracted the eutrophication-causing chemicals from the water: nitrogen and phosphorus compounds. The team of researchers Dr. Tatjana Paulauskienė, Dr. Marija Kataržytė, and Dr. Žilvinas Kryževičius will introduce the environmentally friendly oil spill neutralization technology developed at KU, which is especially relevant to our partner, the port of Klaipėda.

One will also find KU scientists at the stand of the Lithuanian Ornithological Society, where they will acquaint the public with the implementation of the Uncatch project. The project aims to promote measures that can reduce the bycatch of seabirds in fishing nets.
