KU teamed up with The Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research in Warnemünde

Klaipeda University (KU) and The Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW) have teamed up, signing a partnership agreement to strengthen their collaboration in coastal marine research. With a focus on enhancing research, utilising infrastructure efficiently, and driving marine technology innovations, both institutions are poised to make waves in advancing marine science.

Signed at KU's Marine Research Institute by IOW Director Oliver Zielinski and KU Rector Artūras Razbadauskas, the agreement underscores the commitment to nurturing the next generation of marine researchers.

The main drivers for the cooperation are:

  • The need for a better understanding of marine and coastal systems;
  • Cost-effective use of research infrastructure and innovative technologies;
  • Policy requirements, essential for coherence in monitoring and assessment between Baltic Sea countries.

Already sharing common ground in research areas such as coastal and marine management and marine environmental microbiology, this renewed collaboration promises a bright future for marine science advancement and safeguarding the Baltic Sea's ecological integrity.
