KU Biomedical Science Reading Room to open at KUH

The collaboration between Klaipeda University Hospital (KUH) and Klaipeda University (KU) has opened up new opportunities for synergy between science and practice. The University’s Biomedical Science Reading Room was opened at the Hospital.

It is a specialized information center for Hospital doctors, resident doctors, nurses, students participating in Hospital training programs, and other staff. The Reading Room will provide qualified assistance on scientific information retrieval, open access, the use of artificial intelligence tools and bibliographic record management software, publishing opportunities, and copyright. The aim of the new KU Library department is to help KUH community to easily and quickly find the relevant scholarly resources they need and to provide them with the latest research information retrieval tools.

The Reading Room has three desktop workstations for efficient searching and processing of scientific information. Here you can access full-text research articles, journals, clinical trials, and reviews on a wide range of medical topics.

“We are Klaipeda University Hospital. This status means not only the name, but also the responsibility to be part of knowledge, progress, and academic light. The University is inseparable from our activities: the creation of new knowledge, the collection and dissemination of information are the prerequisites for modern medicine. The Reading Room is not only a symbolic step, but also a concrete result of the partnership and a tool for the development of the medical profession at KUH. I want to take a moment to thank the University for this important and nurturing initiative,” said Prof. Dr. Antanas Gulbinas, Director of Medical Affairs at KUH, at the opening of the Reading Room.

Dr. Audrius Šimaitis, General Manager of KUH, welcomed the growing collaboration between the organizations and the tangible initiative to engage the community and encourage improvement.

According to Prof. Dr. Artūras Razbadauskas, Rector of KU, the opening of the Reading Room in the Hospital is an important partnership continuation, which will further strengthen the interaction between science and healthcare.

“This is another significant step in strengthening our cooperation. The University and the University Hospital is an unshakeable tandem. The integration of science and practice is an essential part of a sustainable health system. In the near future, we plan to further expand access to scientific resources. We hope that as many Hospital’s health professionals as possible will make full use of these opportunities, develop their skills, and create science-based healthcare,” said Rector of KU.

Dr. Laura Šaltytė-Vaisiauskė, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at KU, highlighted the potential of cooperation between KU and KUH and invited the Hospital community to actively make use of the opportunities offered by the Reading Room.

“The Biomedical Science Reading Room is more than a space. It is an opportunity to connect to the latest scientific knowledge, broaden horizons, and grow professional competencies. I invite the whole community of Klaipeda University Hospital – doctors, nurses, resident doctors, students – to make full use of this Reading Room: to search for scientific information, to consult, to share ideas. This is a great platform for collaboration – if you have ideas for joint projects, research, or other initiatives, the University is always ready to be your partner. We share not only knowledge, but also experience,” L. Šaltytė-Vaisiauskė spoke to KUH community.
