The Lithuanian University Rectors’ Conference coordinates cooperation among rectors (directors) of higher education institutions, as well as relations with national government bodies, public administration institutions, and municipal authorities. It submits proposals on higher education, research, and experimental development policy matters, and on national policy related to higher education (studies, retraining of higher-education specialists, training of researchers, and universities’ research and creative activities). The Conference also maintains relations with foreign and international organisations.
“I view this appointment as recognition of the entire research community of Klaipeda University, and as both my commitment and opportunity to consistently represent the interests of Lithuanian universities in national research policy. My priority is to reduce disparities in research funding between the Capital Region and the rest of Lithuania, thereby strengthening the balanced development of the country’s research system. I will also seek constructive dialogue with the institutions responsible for shaping and implementing research policy—particularly regarding the improvement of the doctoral studies model, the enhancement of research quality, and the implementation of open science principles,” says Assoc. Prof. Dr Laura Šaltytė-Vaisiauskė.
The election of Assoc. Prof. Dr Šaltytė-Vaisiauskė to this position is significant not only personally, but also for Klaipeda University: it strengthens the University’s representation at the national level and creates greater opportunities to contribute more actively to decision-making processes shaping the future direction of research in Lithuania. By consistently strengthening its research and innovation potential, Klaipeda University is establishing itself as a visible partner and a strong voice in the shared agenda of Lithuanian universities—from ensuring research quality to strengthening funding mechanisms and international competitiveness.
