During the visit, the guests met with KU Rector Prof. Dr. Artūras Razbadauskas, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laura Šaltytė-Vaisiauskė, Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Development Dr. Benediktas Petrauskas, and Head of the Communication and Marketing Department Inga Petrauskienė.
Ambassador Middtun, who assumed his role in September this year, made his first visit to Klaipėda University. He expressed great interest in Klaipėda, the University, and highlighted the importance of the port city and its activities both nationally and internationally.
The guests were introduced to Klaipėda University, its operations, academic programs, and ongoing research. The ambassador was particularly intrigued by the research conducted at the Marine Research Institute, including seafloor and underwater archaeology studies facilitated by the research vessel Mintis and the sailing ship Brabander.
As a historian with a personal interest in World War II history, Ambassador Middtun also showed keen interest in the Baltic Region History and Archaeology Institute and its research.
The delegation also toured KU’s methodological STEAM center and its laboratories. The ambassador expressed delight that children have the opportunity to explore the exact sciences from an early age.
