KU Suspends Partnership with Russian and Belarusian Education Institutions and Opens an Account to Support Students from Ukraine

Today, Klaipėda University informed its partners in Russia and Belarus – universities and research institutes  they had cooperated with in research projects – about the suspension of cooperation due to the invasion of the independent State of Ukraine by the Russian Federation.

“Science and progress, no matter how noble and good the goals of the people working in this field, are incompatible with dictatorship, aggression, and breaking the principles of the democratic world. We stand in solidarity with Ukraine which is currently at war. We condemn the initiators of this war and hope that this sign of protest will resonate in the scientific communities of Russia and Belarus, which can become a bright spot in the struggle for peace and democracy in these countries, ” says KU Rector prof. dr. Artūras Razbadauskas.

KU has opened an account to support students from Ukraine studying at the University and, if necessary, their families. The number of the account to which the support can already be transferred is LT687300010129229701 (AB Swedbank). In the payment purpose, please enter  “Support for Ukrainians”. .

At present, 40 young people from Ukraine currently experiencing military aggression, most of them from the city of Kherson, are studying at Klaipėda University. At a meeting with KU administration yesterday, students were informed about the appointment of an employee to address their concerns. The Rector of KU promised them full support. There have already been requests today to help to cover the costs of living in dormitories, to provide free meals, and to assist in finding jobs.
