The 33rd class of graduates includes Bachelor’s in radiology, social work, economics, journalism, and management degree, as well as Master’s in nursing, business management, national security, public geography and geographic information system (GIS) application, professional ethics and the ethics of audit degree. Today, 14 foreign nationals, who have successfully completed their studies, have also been awarded KU graduate diplomas.
The class of graduates includes 30 engineering graduates. i.e., computer, chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineers. According to Prof. Dr. V. Senčila, Dean of the Faculty of Marine Technology and Natural Sciences at KU, these are the most valuable specialists in every sense. “We see off the engineers – the skills shortage on the labor market. All the technologies we use every day are the fruit of engineers’ creativity. This is a profession that is shaping the future and I would encourage young people, who are still choosing their studies, to choose engineering as a promising career option,” said Prof. Dr. V. Senčila.
Two Master’s students – Daiva Statkuvienė (Master’s degree in Professional Ethics and the Ethics of Audit) and Vilius Kuokala (Master’s degree in Public Geography and Geographic Information System (GIS) Application) – were awarded KU Cum Laude diplomas. Guoda Klemenytė was congratulated on having completed the Bachelor’s in Radiology program with honors. Two graduates of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at KU, D. Amofa-Appiah and Dominykas Račkus, were awarded one-time bonus by the Dean of this Faculty for their excellent study results.
When handing out diplomas to the graduates, Prof. Dr. Artūras Razbadauskas, the Rector of KU, wished them to find their place in life, to be useful and feel valued in the community. “It is our sincere wish that you keep going and keep improving. And most importantly, that you do not lose your connection with Klaipėda University and be patriots and creators of your alma mater, your country”, - emphasized the Rector of KU in his congratulatory speech.
The graduates, who successfully completed their educational stage at the university, were congratulated by A. Šileika, the Chairman of KU Council and the CEO of West Shipyard, A. Vaitkus, the Mayor of Klaipėda, as well as A. Čurovas, the leader of KU Student Union.
Three PhD graduates, who have defended their theses in the last six months, were honored on this festive occasion: Julius Morkūnas, PhD in Ecology and Environmental Science (“Quantification of bycatch of wintering birds in the Baltic Sea in the coastal gillnet fishery and ingestion of marine litter”, scientific advisor Prof. Dr. P. Quillfeldt, Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany), Dr. Tomas Čepaitis, who prepared and defended his scientific thesis in the field of Transport Engineering – “Formation of the rational structure of CHP organic Rankine cycle (ORC) for the marine propulsion engine under operating conditions” (advisor Prof. Habil. Dr. S. Lebedevas); Dr. Arvydas Urbis, who defended his thesis in the field of Physical Geography – “Evaluation of the aesthetic attraction of the Curonian Spit sand dunes and forest landscape” (advisor Prof. Dr. R. Povilanskas).
