They represented KU at the conference and presented the research activities of the Environmental Remote Sensing and Water Quality Research Group related to the application of satellite data in the study of aquatic environments as well as the integration of satellite-based research methods into the curricula modules.
The conference took place at ESA headquarters (Nordwijk, the Netherlands) and was attended by around 300 participants from 23 countries.
Thematic workshops of the conference showcased the capabilities and achievements of cooperating, associate, and the latest ESA member states. Networking events were a highlight, helping participants to establish new contacts. It was also an excellent opportunity for the KU representatives to present the University and to network for international projects.
Lithuania's inclusion in the European Space Agency's community of Associate Members was particularly significant for the MRI KU researchers, who have been applying satellite data to aquatic environment research for more than a decade, who have a substantial research expertise in Earth observation from space, and who are at the forefront of space oceanography and aquatic environment research in Lithuania. So far, MRI KU has already implemented three space-related projects funded by HORIZON 2020 and ESA (EOMORES, CopHUB.AC, TODAY); one ESA project (Qredo) is still ongoing, and approval for a new ESA project is pending.
