Even if the mixed choir “Pajūrio aidos” of Klaipėda University is still young, it is collectively full of enthusiasm and devotion to music. The choir was established in 2007 by its founder and leader, assoc. prof. Algirdas Šumskis. Since the foundation of the choir, it has been able to reach the hearts of Lithuanians in different cities like Nida, Kretinga, Šiauliai, Pagėgiai, Kaunas, and Vilnius. It participated in the Lithuanian Republic and Region Song Celebration, festivals of Lithuanian high school student choirs (Vilnius, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Kaunas), festivals, and competitions.
Therefore, the choir did not limit itself to Lithuania, as it had participated in the international Baltic festival “Gaudeamus”, which is held in Latvia, Estonia, or Lithuania. In 2012, choir with solo program organized concerts in Granada (Spain) and performed Antonio Vivaldi's “Gloria” with the Granada String Orchestra and soloists. In 2019, the choir participated in the international choir competition Krakow Choir Festival “Cracovia Cantans” (Poland) 2019 and held solo concerts. In 2023, the choir participated in the international choir competition in Provence (France) and won 2nd place in the mixed choirs category.
Even now the choir actively participates in various projects and concerts. The mixed choir’s repertoire, which is broad in terms of music genres, is composed by the foreign and Lithuanian composers from the various epochs.
In 2021, the choir was awarded the “Golden Bird” – the nomination “Best Adult Choir and Leader”. This is the highest amateur art award in Lithuania.
